Paralegals are licensed by and regulated by the Law Society of Ontario. Paralegals are required to adhere to a Professional Code of Ethics and carry insurance. The primary difference between a paralegal and a lawyer is the scope of practice; paralegals are limited to the areas in which they can practice. However, the primary benefit of hiring a paralegal for your matter is the cost effectiveness. If your matter falls within a paralegal's scope of practice, retaining a paralegal firm should cost you significantly less than a law firm.
Our paralegals charge $ 150.00 per hour as opposed to a lawyer who can charge upwards of $ 450.00 per hour. We also offer flat rate fee packages for various matters. Our paralegals can assist in the following matters:
* Landlord Tenant Board Matters
* Small Claims Matters
* WSIB Claims & Appeals
* Highway Traffic Act offences
* Various
* other administrative tribunals
Lawyers can assist in all the above noted matters, but it is generally more cost effective to retain a paralegal. Furthermore, since our practice focuses exclusively on these matters we have a thorough understanding of the procedures involved. As well, we are committed to continually educating ourselves in changes to the law, regulations, procedural practices, as well as case law in all these areas of practice.
